The lives of homeless animals are especially difficult in winter, when it's cold and wet outside. Philip Rogich from Ogden, Utah, could no longer watch animals suffering. So he came up with the idea to turn discarded coolers into homes for animals.

"I saw a Facebook post about a man making them and thought I would give it a try. I made my own post looking for old coolers and it kind of took off. I do a lot of charity work mostly with children. My wife and I are also animal lovers and I wanted to do something for them," Rogich says.

Since old coolers pile up in junkyards and don't decompose, the man gives them another chance.

Philip also recorded the whole process of creating such cat houses on video, so that everyone can replicate and help animals anywhere in the world.

"I actually have a 6-inch drill bit and then once you drill the hole, you just use some pipe insulation to pad it. They [the coolers] are already insulated to keep things cold, but they can be used to keep things warm as well," Rogich explains.

And the last step is to put straw inside, since is the best material because it is natural and quick-drying.

Two or three cats can fit in a cooler of this size.

And how do you help homeless animals in your city survive in the wintertime?
