After several years of searching for their lost dog, the couple had already lost all hope and were learning to live without their pet. But one evening just one phone call changed their lives.

Back in 2009, Sophia Hanson let her two dogs, Laila and her brother Blake, out for a walk in the backyard. But when she came to check on them after a while, they were gone. The gate was locked, so the dogs couldn't escape.

After a year of desperate search, Hanson and her husband happened to see an ad that someone from San Antonio, Texas, was selling a pit bull for $500 who looked like Blake. Hanson was willing to give any money for her pet as she was sure it was definitely Blake. The couple responded to the ad and came to see the dog as buyers.

The doggie was in poor condition. He was kept on a massive chain, and was obviously malnourished. On seeing him, Hanson was even more concerned about the other dog. The fate of the clumsy and trusting Laila was unknown. In the meantime, Hanson bought Blake out, and continued looking for Laila.

In 2018, a local resident named Janice spotted a stray dog in the woods near her home. The exhausted dog seemed not to have known human affection in a long time.

The kind woman started feeding the frightened dog and quickly gained his trust. When cold weather came, Janice decided to take the pooch in.

That's how Laila ended up at the woman's house. Since Laila was very calm, well-mannered and knew many commands, Janice realized that this absolutely sweet creature had just lost a loving home. Then the woman took the doggie to the vets. Surprisingly, a tracking microchip was found! This news couldn't have been happier.

That evening Sophia and her husband were getting ready for bed as usual, when suddenly the phone rang. "My husband kept saying into the receiver: 'What? Say that again, please. This is impossible,'" Hanson recalled. The owners got the long-awaited news: their pet had finally been found.

The reunion of Hanson with her dog after eight years apart was so touching that it is hard to describe it in words. This story can't but inspire faith in miracles and kind people.

Laila has changed a lot in eight years, but she doesn't seem to have forgotten her owners. It took her a while to get used to her home again, but soon she felt much better. Laila knew she was finally safe.

"We still can't believe it," Hanson said. "Sometimes we walk by her and we have to do a double take. It’s extremely surreal. She’s in the same chair, in the same spot, laying in her same silly upside-down position. And it’s just funny to see her so comfortable – I can’t even imagine what she’s been through."
