Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere's marriage was once a sensation. This comes as no surprise since she was an iconic model and he was a brilliant actor.

The couple met in 1988 when Cindy was only 22 years old. At the time she was already a famous model who had appeared on the covers of over 300 magazines. Richard Gere was 17 years older. By that time the 39-year-old actor had made a reputation as a Hollywood heartthrob especially for starring in American Gigolo.
They met at a barbecue in the backyard of their friend Herb Ritts, a photographer and portraitist. And what was then?
"Then we talked, then we had a date, then we had another date...," Crawford recalled.
And that was it. They quickly became the most beautiful and talked about couple in Hollywood, appearing together on red carpets, in the smartest restaurants of Los Angeles and Manhattan and on the covers of magazines and newspapers.
At first, Gere was not sure whether he should marry Crawford. But at some point the actor put those thoughts aside, and made up his mind to tie the knot. On December 12, 1991, Gere took a one-night break from filming "Mr. Jones", sat on a private plane with Crawford and close friends, and flew to Las Vegas.
They exchanged vows in the famous Little Church of the West. Because it was a last-minute wedding, Gere and Crawford sealed their union not with a pair of matching rings from Cartier, for example, but with the rings made of aluminum foil.
