The incredible story of a string bond between a man and a dog from Texas has pulled at people's heartstrings and made them think about their responsibility to their pets. Luis Jimenez first saw Titus the pit bull at the Austin Animal Shelter, where the 2-year-old dog ended up after being rescued from the street. It was love at first sight – Jimenez immediately decided he wouldn't leave Titus there.

The next five years were the happiest. The Jimenez family adored their dog. "He became our child," Luis said. But one day trouble came from nowhere. Luis was living in an apartment, the landlord of which suddenly announced that he was now against dogs. Luis faced a difficult choice: it was either the apartment or the dog.

To find a new home, the man had to surrender Titus to the shelter he had once taken the pooch from. When he left, he promised the dog he would do everything he could to get them back together, but that was of little comfort to Titus.

According to shelter employees, the dog was acting nervous. He was depressed, wouldn't eat, and sat miserably in his kennel most of the time, staring longingly at the front door. Titus was clearly bored without his owner and was waiting for him.

The shelter staff felt sorry for the doggie. They did not particularly believe that his owner would ever come back for him, as many people say such things and then do not keep their promise. However, to their surprise, Luis would visit the dog regularly, and each time they parted with tears in their eyes.

It took four long months before Luis could finally find a new home. When he came to the shelter to take Titus to his new home, witnesses to their meeting were moved to tears because both the man and dog seemed to be incredibly happy.

The story ended in the best possible way. According to Jimenez, now the dog has an even more comfortable life than before because in their new home there is a yard where Titus can walk around at any time. Jimenez also thanked the shelter staff for taking care of his dog during a difficult time when they couldn't be together.
