Lauren Buckley, a kind woman and dog lover, already had a pet named Brooks, whom she rescued from being put to sleep. That's why the woman was well aware of how many dogs could become perfect companions, if only they had the chance. Four years later, Buckley saved the life of another doomed doggie who looked as if she couldn't be helped. Lauren did everything she could so that a dog named Laney could enjoy life again. The woman put a lot of effort in her recovery, and the doggie started looking completely different.
"We saw pictures of Laney on Facebook on Christmas Eve. A kind person found her but couldn't keep her, so we knew we had to do something about it," Buckley said.
The dog's condition was critical. According to the person who had found, "she was stinking and her skin was oozing something on the couch."
After being taken to the vet, the poor thing was diagnosed with demodicosis and secondary infections.
Canine demodicosis is characterized by lesions of the skin and internal organs, caused by cigar shaped microscopic parasitic mites. This parasite lives in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the skin and is often passed either from other dogs. It is a serious disease and can be life-threatening for a dog if not treated properly.
"If Laney had not received urgent treatment, she would not be among us now," Lauren said.
Buckley did everything possible to ensure the doggie's recovery.
"We gave Laney antibiotics for four months. We also put coconut oil in her food, applied it to her skin, and gave her weekly therapeutic baths. We also did our best to keep her stress levels low, since the Demodectic mange is exacerbated by stress," Lauren recalled.
But fortunately, help arrived in time and the doggie wasn't left alone in this struggle.
Eventually, Laney started recovering and looked more and more like an ordinary doggie.
When Laney got better, she was adopted by a good friend of Buckley's.
