One cold day in Valdese, North Carolina, Avery Rogers arrived at a charity event to serve food to the homeless. While she was handing out food, she spotted a beautiful cat in a nearby parking lot. Customers confirmed that the animal was a stray.

"When the cat saw me, she started inching closer to the truck from which we were handing out food. A lot of people think she could smell the food from our truck. Maybe that's why she kept coming closer," Avery recalls.

The cat sat down next to Rogers, never taking her eyes off of her. When the woman's shift ended, the cat, instead of running away, immediately snuggled up to her. Rogers thought that the kitty must have been dumped a few days earlier. The animal continued to hang around the volunteer, meowing loudly as if asking her not to leave her on the street.

Rogers named the cat after the color of truck she drove to deliver food. That's how the pet got the name Blue. Avery asked her husband to meet them with a carrier and take Blue to the vet for a checkup.

The search for a microchip came back negative. On examining the cat the vet said that Blue was about one year old and was perfectly healthy, so Rogers could take the cat home that same day. Thus a new chapter in Blue's life began. Now the kitty spends her days lying on a warm bed and enjoying a bowl full of food.

Blue has made it, and now lives in a loving home.
