Katie Graham and her service dog Bailey have been together for about four years, and without him, the girl's life would not have been the same. Katie suffers from a variety of conditions, including POTS – postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which makes the girl faint.

"Bailey alerts to my rising heart rate prior to a fainting episode. This allows me enough time to sit and get in a safe position in case I do lose consciousness. Bailey will do what is called deep pressure therapy to help lower my heart rate and encourage blood flow. This helps keep me awake. He is able to retrieve medications, water, my phone, blanket, snacks, really anything you ask him to get. He seems to just know," Katie says.

Bailey loves to help his owner and makes sure he is there for her whenever she needs help. He always does everything he is trained to do, but sometimes he makes life-changing decisions on his own.

Recently, Katie was doing the dishes when Bailey sensed that the girl was in danger of fainting. He gave her a look that she needed to sit down and brought her phone in case she needed to call an ambulance. Then he tried to get some medicine, but he couldn't reach it.

The daily struggle with POTS is often a silent fight. People do not understand how debilitating it is on a daily basis. My condition worsens as I try to just keep my life in order. It’s so unbelievably heartbreaking to realize your body can’t even handle doing dishes anymore. #pots #potssyndrome #potsawareness #spoonless #disability #POTS #fyp #foryou #servicedog #GetCrackin

It was then that Bailey did something unexpected and truly amazing – he jumped on the counter, the thing he was not allowed to do.

"I was surprised when he jumped on the counter, but I know he did it because I needed help. Bailey is not allowed to climb there, but he realized that this was the case he had to disobey in order to keep me safe and healthy ," Katie says.

Katie has a camera that monitors Bailey, and the moment of the rescue was captured on video. The girl posted the video on TikTok. Users were surprised at how empathic dogs can be and how they are willing to do their best to help their loved ones.
