What a blessing it is when people help animals in need, even though they can't tell about their misfortunes. The story of Smile the dog is sure to touch the chord with you.
Smile the dog, named because of the permanent grin on her face, had a hard start in life. As a young puppy, she was rescued from a hoarding house in Tijuana, Mexico, along with 23 other neglected dogs. Smile was diagnosed with a skin disease, but didn't get the necessary treatment. She spent several years at a local shelter, but its staff didn't take much care of the animals just kept them in small cages, so the doggie didn't get the love and care she needed.
A little later Smile's story became known to the staff of No Dog Left Behind (NDLB). They fell in love with this sweet creature, and decided to help her.
"We fell in love with the hope we saw in her eyes," NDLB wrote on Facebook. "Smile was destined to join our rescue."
After being transported to Minnesota, the doggie started a new chapter in her life. Although at first Smile was afraid of people, she quickly realized that there she was completely safe and surrounded by love. The staff immediately began treating her skin condition and quarantined her.
From that moment Smile showed her gratitude – she started smiling. Her sincere and sweet smile made the entire shelter staff fall in love with her!
Smile has made a full recovery and her skin disease has been cured. Now she lives t he best days of her life with her foster mom Easley.
"The genuine love in her eyes is what makes her the most special dog I've ever met," Easley said.
This charming, kind and affectionate creature is already ready for a new chapter – a forever home. The shelter staff is looking for loving owners for this beauty.
"Even with the pain and discomfort, Smile is so incredibly grateful and trusting," NDLB wrote. "She knows that life will be better from here on out."
