In 2017, the Oklahoma cashier Nick Tate, then 20, was checking out a foster mom who had three kids with her when her WIC card didn't work. So young Nick decided to pay for the formula himself.
Nick was working his night shift at the Newcastle WalMart. The woman was nervous because, as she said, it was the first time she used the WIC card. A WIC card is government-funded program that provides food and other services to low-income pregnant women and nutritional at-risk children up to age five. The cashier made several attempts to swipe the card but it wouldn't work.
Then Nick decided to do something that most of the cashiers have never done in their lives. The guy spent $60 of his own money to pay for the formula.
This is what Nick says about the foster mom:
"For these kids, it's so incredible that they get to have these people in their lives. We don't know what they've been through but because of this family, they're changing these kids' lives," he said.
The woman sincerely thanked Nick on her Facebook.
